twin memory

Windsurf

Add twin memory to Windsurf, now Devin Desktop, as a remote MCP server with serverUrl and headers.

Windsurf's documentation now redirects to Devin Desktop's, at docs.devin.ai. The steps below follow that page.

Add the server

Edit the MCP config file:

  • macOS and Linux: ~/.config/devin/mcp_config.json
  • Windows: %APPDATA%\devin\mcp_config.json

A remote server takes a serverUrl (or url) and headers:

~/.config/devin/mcp_config.json
{
  "mcpServers": {
    "twin-memory": {
      "serverUrl": "https://api.twinmemory.dev/v1/mcp",
      "headers": {
        "Authorization": "Bearer ${env:TWIN_MEMORY_API_KEY}",
        "X-Twin-Account": "user_42"
      }
    }
  }
}

${env:TWIN_MEMORY_API_KEY} is replaced with the TWIN_MEMORY_API_KEY environment variable. An unset variable becomes an empty string, and the server then answers 401.

Use a read key if the agent should only search and read: it cannot write or erase. Use a read and write key if the agent should save what it learns: the server then lists memory_add too.

Older Windsurf builds

Older Windsurf builds kept this file at ~/.codeium/windsurf/mcp_config.json. We could not confirm that path on a current official page, so check your version's docs if the file above is not read.

Check it

Open the MCP panel and refresh. twin-memory should list its tools. Ask the agent to call memory_overview.

If no tools are listed, see Troubleshooting.
